Mason Holgate hails Everton fans for ‘brilliant’ Goodison Park atmosphere
Everton defender Mason Holgate has praised the fans at Goodison Park for their ‘brilliant’ support against Brentford.
There was a clear change in atmosphere in and around the ground as Lampard secured his first win with the Toffees in as many games.
Holgate emphasised the importance of the fans in a ‘fresh start’ for the Blues after the FA Cup victory.
“There is no hiding from the fact that the atmosphere hadn’t been great before,” Holgate told ECHO.
“It was from all aspects on the pitch to everyone. But everyone could feel this was a fresh start and the fans were brilliant all the way through.
“When Brentford scored, they could have been a bit nervy, but they stayed behind us. I think that showed in what we did on the pitch.”
Holgate then concluded: “It was very important to get the winning feeling back in the changing room. It had been too long. It is really hard when you are going out, you are not winning games and you are getting into the routine.
“We had to break the mould and get a win. We want to keep the feeling going with the games we have got coming up.”
Patience > results
The club have been here time and time again, enjoying a huge boost after the departure of a manager sucking the life out of the club for whatever reason.
It is brilliant that Lampard has come in and had an immediate impact, but he is still in the honeymoon period. Hopefully he can keep up build on his impressive start so far, so the Blues aren’t having this conversation again in six months’ time.
Lampard will be desperate to be a success after his failure at Stamford Bridge and that experience is likely to help him at Everton.
The former England player essentially ran out of steam after a very strong start at Chelsea, something he can look back on to avoid repeating the same mistakes with the Toffees.
The honeymoon atmosphere at the club needs to remain for as long as possible.
The fans have a huge responsibility in the success of Lampard and the players. They need to be supported with patience regardless of results as hounding out another manager would leave the club in an even bigger mess – give them time.
