Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek in squad in two changes – Everton confirm starting XI v Newcastle United

Frank Lampard has made two changes to his starting line-up as Everton get ready to play Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.

Prior to kick-off, the Blues announced via their official Twitter account that Andros Townsend and Yerry Mina have returned to the starting line-up with Ben Godfrey and Vitaly Mykolenko being axed.

Dominic Calert-Lewin is back from injury and on the bench while there are also spots among the substitutes for potential debutants Dele Alli, Donny van de Beek, Nathan Patterson and Anwar El Ghazi.

Time to build momentum

Lampard’s era started at the weekend in the best possible way with the 4-1 win over Brentford in the FA Cup.

We saw numerous players missing in that win at Goodison Park due to being cup-tied and injuries, so the real work starts now with more players available against a team that’s just as desperate as us to hit winning form in the Premier League.

You can guarantee that St James’ Park will be bouncing.

Eddie Howe’s side should be fresher than Lampard’s men due to them not having an FA Cup match at the weekend while they’ve also made some big signings in the last few weeks.

As it stands, 19th-placed Newcastle are four points behind us in the Premier League table. If they win on Tuesday, the relegation zone will be a lot closer to us – especially if teams like Watford and Norwich also pick up results this week.

Everton have a lot of work to do to avoid relegation and this is not going to be an easy game however you look at it.

In other Everton news, Stan Collymore says it’s the “last-chance saloon” for one of Lampard’s players.
