Dele Alli in 4/10 stinker, Gordon scores highest – Everton player ratings v Newcastle United
Everton saw the Premier League’s relegation zone inch closer to them on Tuesday night as they let slip of a one-goal lead to lose 3-1 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Jamaal Lascelles own-goal in the 36th minute was cancelled out seconds later when Mason Holgate found the back of his own net.
In the second half, Ryan Fraser took advantage of some poor defending by Frank Lampard’s side after 56 minutes.

Kieran Tripper rounded off the 3-1 win for the Magpies with a free-kick in the 80th minute.
Sixteenth-placed Everton are now just three points clear of the relegation zone with Newcastle only one point behind them.
Here, Goodison News has rated the players out of 10 for their performances in the defeat on Tyneside:
Jordan Pickford – 4
What is it with Pickford and Newcastle? He didn’t look composed at all throughout the game and was very sloppy with the ball at his feet and when crosses were thrown into the box. There wasn’t too much he could’ve done about the goals but we expect better from England’s so-called number one.

Seamus Coleman – 4
Is it time for Nathan Patterson? Coleman is doing very little to show why he should be in Lampard’s starting line-up.
Mason Holgate – 4
Holgate was caught up in a bizarre few minutes when his effort at goal resulted in Lascelles’ own-goal before Lascelles then forced an own-goal by the Everton defender. He didn’t do himself any justice for Newcastle’s second goal either, stepping out of position and allowing the home side in behind him and his defensive teammates.
Yerry Mina – 4
It wasn’t great that Mina went off with an injury but before he did, the Colombia international was in absolutely woeful form. His passing was all over the place and yet another injury for the centre-back means he’ll never be someone we can rely upon on a long-term basis.
Michael Keane – 4
Keane looked hopeless throughout the game and Everton really need to look at upgrading upon him in the summer. He struggled a lot against Newcastle’s attackers and he never fills us with confidence when he plays.
Andros Townsend – 4
Did Townsend do anything of note? We much prefer Townsend as an impact substitute and that’s probably how it should stay over the coming weeks.
Andre Gomes – 3
From Rolls Royce against Brentford to a Fiat Punto against Newcastle. Gomes was horrific, yet again, in the middle of the park against the Magpies. Whenever they had the ball, he looked like he was a yellow card waiting to happen because he simply couldn’t keep up with the play. We wouldn’t miss him if he’s sold in the summer.

Allan – 4
Allan hasn’t been awful this season but he really wasn’t great against Newcastle. There are so many players in this team who you wouldn’t really miss if they’re dropped. Allan is more important than others, in our opinion, but his starting spot is surely up for grabs after his display at St James’ Park.
Demarai Gray – 5
Gray had several loose touches and passes and didn’t contribute too much before he was forced off in the 25th minute with an injury.
Anthony Gordon – 6
Gordon was easily Everton’s brightest player. The 20-year-old is someone who we feel can really flourish under Lampard’s charge. He didn’t deserve to be on the losing side at Newcastle and was our man of the match for the Blues.

Richarlison – 5
Richarlison gave the Newcastle defenders something to at least think about on Tuesday night but we need more from the Brazil international. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has to start at the weekend if he’s ready to.
Substitutions:
Dele Alli (on for Gray, 25′) – 4
Alli lost the ball and wasn’t good enough getting back to defend when Newcastle scored their second goal. Not the debut we’d have hoped for Lampard’s deadline day signing.
Jarrad Branthwaite (on for Mina, 35′) – 4.5
After coming on to replace the injured Mina, Branthwaite looked solid but seemed to struggle more and more as the game carried on.
Donny van de Beek (on for Gomes, 60′) – 5
Added some control to our midfield after he was introduced for his debut.
In other Everton news, Stan Collymore says it’s the “last-chance saloon” for this Evertonian ace.
