Kevin Campbell hopes Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek’s form returns at Everton

Kevin Campbell believes new Everton duo Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek have the chance to kickstart their career under Frank Lampard at Everton.

The pair joined the Blues in January having been out of favour at their respective previous clubs, Tottenham and Manchester United.

Campbell stated that both players ‘need an arm round them’ as they look to reignite their careers on Merseyside.

“He’s brought in Dele Alli, who has really gone stale at Spurs, and I think he’s a victim of Mourinho, if I’m honest,” Campbell told TalkSPORT.

“Before Mourinho went there he was that player, an England international, and then Mourinho came in and he lost his way a little bit.

“So, he needs it. Donny van de Beek never got an opportunity at Manchester United, so again these are players who probably need an arm around them.

“Both of these players are brilliant on their day, so fingers crossed Frank Lampard can get the best out of them.”

Circumstance

The pair have caught a lot of stick recently for no real reason.

At times Alli could have conducted himself better at Spurs and kept a low profile whilst being out of the fold for whatever reason in north London but he hasn’t done anything on or off the pitch that warrants the backlash he is facing.

He may have had a sip in form, but everything needs to be taken into account, not just an overly critical observation of the 25-year-old.

His previous two managers style of football basically tied his boots together with the system not suiting Alli at all. Lampard likes to play attacking, exciting football which is what we have seen the former MK Dons player do throughout his whole career and hopefully the same form will return to Goodison Park.

Van de Beek’s Manchester United career has been unfortunate to say the least. He couldn’t have done anything to change the situation he is in other than join a club seemingly led by clowns.

He wasn’t needed at the club and therefore hasn’t played which is bound to have destroyed his confidence making with his dream move to the Premier League not working out.

He is a proven Champions League star who just needs consistent game time and love much like Alli, love and trust from the manager.

Thankfully enough for the pair, something Lampard is more than capable of delivering.
