Michael Owen predicts Newcastle United v Everton scoreline

Michael Owen predicts Newcastle United will hold Everton to a draw when they meet at St James’ Park on Tuesday night.

Evertonians are hoping to see deadline day signings Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek in action for the first time since joining Frank Lampard’s side while the new manager will also be taking charge of his first Premier League match since his appointment.

Both Everton and Newcastle had massive Januarys and with both teams are battling at the wrong end of the Premier League, ex-Magpies and Liverpool striker Owen is finding it tough to decide on a winner.

Everton

Writing on the BetVictor website, Owen said: “It’s all change at both these clubs. For Newcastle it was a busy window, but I’m sure Eddie Howe might have wanted one or two more players in. Nonetheless, they did some good business and I’m excited to see how Bruno Guimaraes gets on. If he can help to strengthen that midfield, that would be a huge positive.

“As for Everton, a lot has changed. Frank Lampard is in the dugout and has already brought in a couple of big names in Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli. I’m really curious to see how Dele gets on, it’s been a difficult couple of seasons for him. Frank was desperate to get him in though and I have a feeling he’ll do well for Frank.

“I can’t see a winner here, 1-1.”

Tough to call

We agree with Owen here because these are two teams who we cannot really guess what we’re going to see from them.

Eddie Howe hasn’t been in charge at St James’ Park for too long and he made major additions to his squad in January.

Everton, on the other hand, have had Lampard in charge for just over a week and we’re also yet to see what impact their January signings can make.

On paper, Alli and van de Beek should be quality additions to Lampard’s side while we’re also hopeful of the progress that Vitaly Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson will make in the coming seasons.

Both teams are among the biggest and best-supported in the Premier League and neither sets of fans deserve to be seeing their teams struggling at the bottom end of the table.

You’d imagine that Everton and Newcastle will have too much about them to be relegated this season but Newcastle have been in that situation before, as have teams like Aston Villa.

We need to get the Lampard era properly up and running on Tuesday night. Winning at what is bound to be a bouncing St James’ Park will be huge.
