Everton keeper Jordan Pickford mocked by Newcastle fan in fancy dress

Everton were beaten 3-1 by fellow relegation battlers Newcastle United on Tuesday and one Magpies fan took the opportunity to mock one of the Toffees’ stars.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was the target for the banter as one Newcastle supporter dressed in a huge inflatable dinosaur outfit, intended to make fun of the England international’s lack of height [Daily Star].

Fans on social media have previously referred to the 27-year-old’s lack of reach as similar to that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, hence the dinosaur get up at St. James’ Park.

Pickford wasn’t really at fault for any of Newcastle’s three goals however as Ryan Fraser and Kieran Trippier added to Mason Holgate’s own goal to drag the Merseyside club closer to the drop.

Friendly banter

When Pickford looked up into the crowd and saw this giant dinosaur, chances are he would have had a feeling it was to mock him personally.

He is, however, a loud and confident character and he will have laughed it off almost instantly when he headed towards the goal at that end.

Like water off a duck’s back, Pickford brushed it to the back of his mind very quickly and he remained one of the Toffees’ better players on a night where they simply did not perform.

But this is the kind of crowd/player banter we want to see and it’s a much more enlightening image than the abuse seen at other grounds in recent weeks.

No racial abuse, physical violence or missiles thrown, just an elaborate joke, taken the right way by the recipient, very refreshing.

In other Everton news, Leon Osman has delivered a chilling verdict on the Toffees’ season, and he is worried.
