Everton ace Tom Davies admits falling out of love with football this season

Everton ace Tom Davies has admitted falling out of love with football in the past as he continues to work his way back to full fitness at Finch Farm.

The Liverpool born player has suffered a catalogue of injuries this season, keeping him on the sidelines for most of the season.

The midfielder underwent a successful hamstring operation in January and admitted that working back to fitness has helped get his love for the game back.

“It’s been one of my most unfortunate years on the pitch, and not my best due to the injuries, but I’ve learnt so much from it: how to deal with myself, how I think in difficult situations, watching the team.” Davies told SoccerBible.

“It’s like I’ve been taken out of the kitchen and I’m watching everyone else cook. You can see what things are going well and what things maybe when you’re back you’d like to try and improve.

“I just can’t wait to play footy again. Simple as that. It’s made me realise how much I do love playing. I’m going in and I’m not allowed to kick a ball, I’m not even allowed to pass it against the wall. It’s frustrating.

“I don’t know if it’s been going through those difficult times and falling out of love with playing – not playing, but how your life’s set up. But this has been a step back and I’ve really fallen back in love with it and I can’t wait to get going again.”

Disaster season

No wonder Davies has fallen out of love with football at times this season. The local lad has been through an absolute nightmare of a campaign with one injury after the other making it impossible to play.

He looked to be nearly out of the woods when making his return from his bad knee injury but then disaster struck with his hamstring.

It must be horrible sitting and watching your fellow teammates struggle and not being able to do anything to help them. Especially with the midfielder holding many of the qualities the Toffees could have done with this season.

That’s far from saying the Blues wouldn’t be in this position if Davies wasn’t injured but his work rate, passion, intensity and genuine desire to play well for the club he loves could have been used in recent weeks.

He is a player Frank Lampard will certainly have his eyes on in the long term.
