Garth Crooks stunned by Seamus Coleman for Everton v Leeds United, Michael Keane also in TOTW

Garth Crooks was left stunned by Everton defender Seamus Coleman in the 3-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

The skipper scored the first and was joined in the BBC pundits’ Team of the Weekend alongside another goalscorer, Michael Keane.

Crooks was left impressed with Toffees, but shared his doubts over Frank Lampard, questioning if Farhad Moshiri or Bill Kenwright would be blamed if it goes wrong.

Writing for the BBC in his weekly column, Crooks picked out Coleman for his driving efforts at the weekend.

“One player who never seems to struggle under any regime is Coleman,” he said. “The Republic of Ireland international gives his all, every time I see him perform for club or country.

“Against Leeds, his enthusiasm was as infectious as ever, while his performance seemed to set the tone for an impressive victory.

“Yet I am not convinced Lampard has the players he needs to get him where he wants to be at Goodison.

“New owner Farhad Moshiri, with the support of Bill Kenwright – the chairman that fans were so keen to hold responsible for their lack of success – have delivered Carlo Ancelotti, Benitez and now Lampard in quick succession. I wonder who they will hold responsible if this goes wrong?”

Standing up.

Coleman and his men were all superb on Saturday, and this is just the beginning at Goodison Park.

We must say though, this has to be motivation to kick on and we can’t allow what happened after the Brentford win to happen again moving forward.

This win will mean little if we go out and get smashed by Southampton next weekend in the Premier League – it is all about consistency.

Lampard will be calling on the experienced heads of Coleman and Keane to shore up this team, and they seem to be relishing that role.

Goals are always great, but those two will care more about the clean-sheet, something that has been a long time coming for the Toffees.

Kenwright and Moshiri will always be wary that things can go wrong, but for now, they will be sitting comfortably at the top of the club.
