Kevin Campbell: Everton pair Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ‘real handful’

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell sees Everton strike duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison as players who can cause defenders big problems when played together.

They have rarely played alongside each other upfront at Goodison Park this season due to injuries but they were united by Frank Lampard against Leeds as they ran out 3-0 winners.

The Brazilian thought he had got on the scoresheet when his long-range effort found the net but teammate Anthony Gordon took the plaudits having got a faint deflection on the shot.

Calvert-Lewin is still returning to fitness having missed the majority of the season so far following surgery on a broken toe with which he started the season [Sky Sports].

“I think the pair of them up front are a real handful for any defence,” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News. “I think Richarlison is a really good player and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is searching for fitness but he’s a handful as well.

“There aren’t many teams who play two up top and having those two up top together is going to serve Everton well for the rest of the season.”

Lampard’s first two games at Goodison Park have been a great success, with a 4-1 win over Brentford in the FA Cup preceding the Leeds triumph.

The Toffees were, however, beaten 3-1 at St. James’ Park in a relegation clash with Newcastle United and Campbell thinks the Evertonians have a big part to play in the coming games.

“I think the home form is going to be very important, using that 12th man is very important and as far as I’m concerned, they seem to perform at home now,” he said.

Everton travel to St. Mary’s to take on Southampton on Saturday with the Saints in good form having taken five points from their last three games against both Manchester clubs and Tottenham.

In other Everton news, this Toffee has been offered out to a club in Brazil over a potential loan move and he is interested.
