Everton defender Yerry Mina will not need surgery, but ‘will need some time’
Thankfully for Everton and Frank Lampard, defender Yerry Mina doesn’t require surgery on a quadriceps tendon injury but he will be out for some time.
The Colombian hobbled off during the Toffees’ 3-1 Premier League defeat away at Newcastle United to be replaced by Jarrad Branthwaite at centre-half.
In his press conference on Thursday, Lampard confirmed the news that he wouldn’t require an operation but he will be without the 27-year-old for a number of weeks.

“He didn’t (need surgery) – we hope that remains the case, so we’re working on the injury now,” Lampard said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Yerry is here working with our medical team to try to make some early strides and make sure he recovers because I know he’s had some repetitive kind of injuries – different injuries – but he’s had his issues.
“I think it’s really important we focus on this one to get it right.
“It won’t be surgery, but it will be a lot of work behind the scenes. Obviously, it’s also quite a long injury so Yerry will need some time mentally to have a breather at times.
“We’ll do our best to make sure he comes back and hopefully help to prevent further injuries off the back of it.”

Thin on the ground
The problems are already mounting for Lampard at centre-half with Ben Godfrey also sidelined and now Mina to add to the physio room.
Mina’s had so many injury issues in his time at Goodison Park and has only completed 10 appearances in the Premier League this season due to various issues.
Everton are down to almost the barebones at the heart of the team now with Mason Holgate and Michael Keane the two preferred options and Branthwaite the only backup.
It will be a real worry for Lampard as he knows that just one moment could see another player forced off injured or even a red card for either of his senior defenders.
That would be a huge blow if it were to happen, leaving the inexperienced Branthwaite a big task to play against the country’s best attacking talent at such a young age.
He could have done with a loan move in January but with the injuries mounting, he is, all of a sudden, crucial to Lampard’s team.
