Everton boss Frank Lampard shares biggest changes in training

Frank Lampard has shared the biggest changes he has made at Finch Farm since being appointed Everton manager.

The former England international emphasised the importance of creating the right atmosphere for the players to do their best work in.

Lampard will look to build on the hard work done so far on the training pitch to build on his impressive start against Southampton this afternoon (February 19).

“The first thing to do is to try and set the environment in and around the pitch.” Lampard told ECHO.

“I want things to be as, when I say easy for them as anything in a professional level, I expect certain things – but they have to come work with smiles on their faces and when I first came in on the first day, I wasn’t sure that the players were smiling that much and that is because of results and circumstances.

“So, we tried to be very bright around the group, we tried to prioritise what we needed to get better at and clearly possession, moving the ball well, was something I really wanted to focus on and how we work off the ball and keep teams away from our goal.

“So, we had sessions to increase possession and sessions to slowly work on the physical condition because it is very hard mid-season to do that. And that can’t be an absolute priority because you can over-work them when there are too many games coming up quickly.”

Transparent

It is quite refreshing to hear the extensive work going on behind the scenes at Finch Farm as Lampard looks to make an impact on the players and how this team plays.

He is very transparent when talking to the media which is a breath of fresh air considering the closed-minded managers we have previously had.

It made them very hard to trust when all the fans would see was poor results with no explanation or plan in place to resolve the issue.

It will take him a little while longer but the impact the former Chelsea Manager has had on this squad is clear to see.

Things are still in the very early stage of his Toffees career but so far, Lampard is doing and saying all of the right things. He is going about the job in a classy way.

Hopefully his positive start will continue later today against the Saints.
