Everton made ‘mistake after mistake’ in Southampton defeat – Alan Shearer
Everton came crashing back down to earth with a 2-0 defeat away at Southampton where the Saints barely had to get out of second gear.
Goals from Stuart Armstrong and Shane Long condemned Frank Lampard’s side to another defeat away from Goodison Park despite back-to-back wins on home turf.
The Toffees remained 16th in the Premier League but victories for Burnley and Watford has seen the relegation zone creep closer in their rearview mirror.

All-time leading Premier League goalscorer Alan Shearer slammed Lampard’s Blues on BBC Match of the Day as individual errors cost Everton again.
“Everton made mistake after mistake and were pretty weak,” Shearer said. “There was no response at all and it could have been worse.”
Inexcusable
There are some occasions where you have to hold your hands up and admit that the opposition is far better than you are, but this wasn’t one of them.
As the Saints cruised their way to victory, Everton seemed to think they were playing against prime 1970s Brazil, condemned to the fact that they were going to lose.

Why this was is beyond the majority of Toffees supporters because the home performances have been nothing of the like since Lampard’s appointment.
It’s not to say that the players weren’t trying but they certainly didn’t look like a team that could score a goal had they given it a real go.
Everton failed to get a single shot on target in the whole 90 minutes while Southampton pummelled 11 at Jordan Pickford in a game they thoroughly deserved to win.
Lampard has to get the group together and stamp this mentality out completely before their next away trip in the Premier League because you can’t stay up on home form alone, everyone knows that.
