Everton should have sold ‘weak’ trio in 2019 – Liverpool Echo journalist
Liverpool ECHO journalist Sam Carroll has highlighted a ‘massive’ issue within the Everton squad.
The Blues’ midfield came under much scrutiny following the 2-0 defeat Frank Lampard’s side suffered at Saint Mary’s yesterday (February 19).
Carroll singled out three players who should have been axed a long time ago.

“Gbamin £25m. Gomes £25m. Delph big wages (you would imagine),” he wrote on Twitter.
“The summer of 2019 was meant to revitalise the midfield but it has taken Everton two steps back.
“So weak physically and mentally. A massive area of concern.”
Shambles
The Toffees have supposedly been undergoing a rebuild and cutting the dead weight from the squad for the last five or so years.
The trouble you find with that is there hasn’t been a manager at the club long enough to carry out an effective rebuild since Roberto Martinez departed in 2016.
Each new manager that has come in has brought their own players and ideas to Finch Farm which has left the Blues with an absolute mess of a squad.

You would genuinely struggle to find a more mismatched squad in the Premier League than Everton’s.
Farhad Moshiri needs to work quickly and effectively with Lampard to hire a director of football and actually allow them to do their job.
The club needs structure from top to bottom. The club is crying out for a wage and transfer structure after so many years of aimlessly spending on supposedly top-quality players who haven’t delivered.
