Everton new boys backed to solve midfield crisis – Carlton Palmer

BBC pundit Carlton Palmer believes Frank Lampard should back Everton new boys Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli together in midfield.

The duo are yet to start a game together for the Toffees since arriving in the January transfer window.

However, Palmer believes the two new arrivals would “definitely work” in the same midfield.

He told GiveMeSport: “He (Alli) is a talented, talented footballer. So, the two of them in the side can definitely work, for sure.”

Risky

Very understandably, Lampard doesn’t want to risk starting the club’s two newest arrivals in the same midfield.

Much like all of the other players, they have barely worked with the new boss but more importantly, they haven’t been able to build up a proper relationship with their fellow teammates yet either.

It would be a huge risk from the former Chelsea boss to throw them both into the same midfield, an area the Blues are already struggling in.

They need time to settle in properly before they can start a game together and when they eventually do, they could be a formidable duo.

Despite not showing their full potential in recent times, both players are gifted with huge talent.

It mustn’t be forgotten that the pair went head-to-head in the Champions League semi-final as Ajax faced Tottenham and both midfielders were instrumental for their teams.

It could be the answer to Everton’s midfield issue but not quite yet.
