Frank Lampard delivers verdict on Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Frank Lampard has suggested that Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin will get better once he regains full sharpness.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a bright start to the 2021-22 season, but he missed four months of action due to a muscle injury.

He has made five appearances since returning from injury but has failed to find the net in those games.

Lampard has suggested that he doesn’t want Calvert-Lewin to be an old-school striker, rather urges him to be dynamic upfront.

The Toffees boss said to Everton Tv: “It’s not easy for him with the time he’s had out.

“He did some very good bits against Southampton but I don’t want him to be an old-school centre-forward receiving balls from 70 or 80 yards – that’s an option but it’s not the way we play. We need better service around him then he’ll do the damage he can do.

“I have no problems with him, because he’ll get fit and he’ll get better”

Spot on

Lampard is spot on here. Everton need Calvert-Lewin to fire all cylinders till the end of the season and help the side climb up the table.

Having been out for so long, it will take time for him to regain his full sharpness. He is a quality player and it’s only a matter of time before he gets back to his old form.

The most important point here is about the style of football that Lampard has pointed out. He is a key player for the club, and Lampard can build a strong squad around him.

Obviously, it’s a collective effort, and Calvert-Lewin needs service from his teammates as well.

It’s clear that Lampard wants to implement an attractive brand of football where forwards will be tasked to create chances with intricate passes, rather than hooping the ball 70-80 yards out for the striker to chase.

Lampard has brought positivity into the side but the results need to improve, especially away from home. The Toffees will face Manchester City in their next Premier League game.

In other Everton news, Frank Lampard has urged players to maintain ‘belief’ in his system.
