Everton defender Nathan Patterson could be handed debut v Boreham Wood

January signing Nathan Patterson could be handed his Everton debut in the FA Cup, according to Patrick Boyland.

The Athletic journalist has claimed that the former Rangers man is still is a work in progress and can understand why Frank Lampard hasn’t given him his chance yet.

However, the Toffees boss has stated that he will be given opportunities and that could come against Boreham Wood on Thursday (March 3).

Boyland wrote, “It is a shame not to have seen him already, Julian. I felt there was an opportunity to blood the January signing from Rangers in the FA Cup tie against Brentford but understood why Lampard, in his first game as manager, prioritised a strong start.

“Lampard has said he’ll get his chance but wants to find the right circumstances. Maybe that’s the Boreham Wood game in the FA Cup next Thursday.”

Start him

Patterson may have not been a Lampard signing, but he certainly is a quality player in the making.

He’s excelled at Rangers and a move to Goodison Park was the next logical step in his career.

Seamus Coleman is on his last legs while neither Jonjoe Kenny nor Mason Holgate are good enough to be the club’s long-term right-back.

Patterson, on the other hand, has all the tools to be a success at Everton and it’s about time Lampard shows faith in him.

John Roder, a BBC MOTD commentator, waxed his lyrical during a Scotland game and said, “Excellent persistence here by Patterson. He’s done well there.”
