Everton staring at relegation after important result y’day

Everton might not have played in midweek but they are in a more precarious position after a big win for Burnley at home to Tottenham.

Clarets skipper Ben Mee rose highest from a set-piece to head in the only goal of the game and drag Sean Dyche’s side to within four points of the Toffees.

Frank Lampard did at least get a helping hand from Merseyside rivals Liverpool who hammered Leeds United 6-0 to keep the Whites firmly in the mire too.

Things are far from looking rosy for Lampard and Everton and they are no longer just glancing over their shoulder at the threat of relegation, but staring it directly in the face.

It isn’t just Burnley who are starting to find some form below the Toffees as Newcastle have managed to drag themselves out of the bottom three but both Watford and Norwich have also managed to pick up wins in recent weeks.

Thankfully for the Toffees though, they have found a way to win at home and as long as they keep managing to do so, they should be more than safe come May.

The away form will be very concerning for everyone involved in the club and they need any kind of result on the road to galvanise the squad.

Relegation simply cannot happen for Everton with the prospect of a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock for the 2024-25 season and the massive investment into the squad.

They need the tv money from the Premier League to ensure they don’t fall into an ocean of debt and potentially fall into a similar pit as Derby County have over the last 12 months.

In other Everton news, assistant manager Joe Edwards says he jumped at the chance to join Lampard at Goodison Park.
