Tim Cahill set to stay on at Everton after impressing during Frank Lampard search

Former midfielder Tim Cahill is set to stay on at Everton despite their hiring of Kevin Thelwell as Director of Football.

According to 90Min journalist Graeme Bailey, the ex Australia international played a key role in the club’s appointment of Frank Lampard.

He is believed to have impressed the hierarchy during that process and he is now set for an extended stay at Goodison Park.

Via his personal Twitter account, Bailey wrote, “Former Tottenham transfer supremo Steve Hitchens had held talks, but the club went with Thelwell instead. Tim Cahill still expected to play some role after impressing during Frank Lampard search.”

Good move

Cahill understands this football club inside out so it makes sense to have him on board.

As an ex player, he gets what needs to be done to improve the first team and get Everton challenging for European spots and domestic honours.

He will also share a good understanding with the owners and board members and will be respected by the dressing room.

Lampard, who will have played against him in the Premier League on a number of occasions, will certainly value what he brings to the table.

All in all, this seems like a good move by Everton to retain his services and hopefully, we can see fruits of his labour in the due course.
