Everton have to play Ellis Simms next season due to super loan spell

There could be an argument to suggest that Everton lacked a proper goalscorer yesterday as they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City.

Richarlison led the line despite not being a natural striker as Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed the game through injury.

Frank Lampard doesn’t seem to trust either Salomon Rondon or Cenk Tosun enough to start up front and after that, their options are virtually non-existent.

There is, however, one contracted Toffee who is scoring goals but unfortunately for Lampard, he was already out on loan before he joined the club on transfer deadline day.

That player is 21-year-old Ellis Simms who is loving life north of the border in Scotland with Hearts so far.

He scored his third goal in just seven matches on Saturday as the Jambos beat St. Mirren 2-0.

Simms spent the first half of this season barely playing and featured just once for the Toffees’ first team and he wasn’t happy about it.

Now he’s playing games again, the smile has returned to his face as he hits a good run of form in the Scottish Premiership.

Lampard should be paying very close attention to the 21-year-old’s time in Scotland because he could be the answer to his problems when Calvert-Lewin isn’t in the side.

Lewis Dobbin and Tom Cannon are other Everton youngsters waiting to get their chance but both could do with a loan move themselves before they are thrust into the limelight.

Even if Calvert-Lewin stays at Goodison Park next season, Lampard has to start using Simms either from the start or off the bench because he is a talent that they do not want to let go at any cost.

In other Everton news, Richard Keys went mental at a controversial moment in yesterday’s game against Manchester City.
