Pundits share reactions to Rodri handball incident in Everton 0-1 v Man City

Gary Neville and Don Hutchison have shared their reactions on Twitter after Everton were denied a penalty in the second half.

The Toffees lost 1-0 against Manchester City at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday (26 February), where Phil Foden scored the winner for the visitors.

Everton were denied a penalty in controversial circumstances when the video replays clearly showed the ball had hit the arms of Manchester City midfield Rodri inside the penalty box.

After a VAR check, the handball appeal was turned down, and Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville was far from impressed. He wrote on Twitter: ” I thought that was a penalty!”

Don Hutchison also shared his reaction to this big incident. He wrote: “Dear me!!!!!! No handball you say.”

Relegation battle

Despite a strong fight from the home side, they were undone by a) poor defending from Michael Keane and b) an equally poor decision from VAR.

There are signs of improvement from Frank Lampard, but surely the results must improve as the Toffees find themselves just a place and a point above the relegation zone.

The Toffees were well organised and kept City’s threats at bay but a lapse in concentration from Keane (which is unacceptable, of course) killed the effort completely.

Lampard must find a way to get results now. They have now suffered three defeats in their last four games, and the situation is far from ideal.

Their next few games are huge and the results from those games will determine their future. They face Tottenham, Wolves, Newcastle, Watford, West Ham, and Manchester United – teams that are either fighting for survival or aiming to secure the top-four spot.
