Michael Ball hails ‘very clever’ Everton chief Kevin Thelwell
Former Everton player Michael Ball has outlined the huge job the Toffees new director of football Kevin Thelwell has at the club.
The Blues announced the former Wolves and New York Red Bulls chief last week following Marcel Brands’ departure earlier in the season.
Ball urged Thelwell to focus on the structure of the entire club rather than just Frank Lampard and the first team.

He told the Liverpool ECHO: “Kevin has got the experience. He was at Wolverhampton Wanderers but that got taken away from him because of Jorge Mendes’ influence.
“He went to a huge franchise at New York Red Bulls – they’re not daft, they’re very clever – and have a great worldwide set-up.
“He’s very well-connected, is trustworthy and has the ability to do the job.
“Kevin has got an impressive CV, he knows what we need as a football club and will understand where Everton have gone wrong.
“In the past we’ve made bad decisions and have been guilty of panic buys and forced issues. It’s not right for the football club but Kevin is coming in with a fresh set of eyes and I’m hoping that proves a blessing going forward.
“It goes beyond just the first XI. We need to think of the under-23s and the Academy. If he’s going to be the decision-maker then the fans can get behind Kevin and Frank Lampard as they’ll be the future for Everton.”

Spot on
Ball has hit the nail on the head with this one.
For far too long has money been pumped into the club with absolutely no plan or direction whatsoever. It has done a lot more damage than it has good and the state of the first team is the biggest example of that.
There needs to be structure from top to bottom, that way everybody no matter what part of Everton they belong to, is working towards the same goal.
More importantly, Moshiri needs to allow him to do his job. It is difficult to understand the full extent of how bad Brands was during his time as football director.
He spent ludicrous amounts of money on so many terrible players, but it seems as if the whole backroom staff had a hand in the signings too.
The owners need to learn from their glaringly obvious mistakes and follow the same structure almost every other club in the Premier League is doing, many with great success.
