Premier League apology to Everton baffles talkSPORT pundit Charlie Austin
PGMOL general manager Mike Riley apologised to Everton on Monday after a refereeing mistake cost the Toffees a chance at a point against Manchester City.
Frank Lampard and the entirety of Goodison Park thought Rodri had handled the ball in his own area but even a VAR check didn’t see the right outcome reached.
The apology has done little to plaster over the pain of missing out on the chance to equalise against the league leaders and talkSPORT pundit Charlie Austin doesn’t see the point of it.
“To come out and start apologising doesn’t sit well, they’ll be doing it all the time,” Austin said.
“They [VAR] are there to help the official on the pitch. I think we can all agree it should have been a penalty so he has got it wrong.
“What does it [the apology] achieve? I really don’t know.”
Time to move on
It’s happened now, there is nothing anyone can do to change what happened on Saturday, no matter how unjust it may have been.

Lampard and his players will have surely moved on from the disappointment now and it’s time the fanbase does too.
Everton could be on the wrong end of a famous FA Cup story on Thursday if they aren’t fully focused and past the weekend’s events when they welcome Boreham Wood to Merseyside.
The National League side have already proven they can mix it with sides way above their division having knocked Championship high-flyers Bournemouth in the previous round.
Anything less than the best will put the Toffees on the ropes and any hangover from the weekend won’t help their cause.
In other Everton news, they are chasing one of the MLS’ star players for a bargain price this summer.
