‘Some people are wrong’ – Donny Van de Beek admits point to prove at Everton
Donny Van de Beek has admitted he has a point to prove after joining Everton on deadline day in January, claiming he wants to show ‘some people are wrong’.
The Dutch international joined the Toffees on loan for the rest of the season as Frank Lampard’s first signing at the club, and has been an excellent addition to the midfield.
After minimal game time following a £40m move to Manchester United in the previous 18 months, Van de Beek has been tipped to show his quality at Goodison Park and has now admitted to the Everton programme via Liverpool ECHO that he is hoping to prove some people wrong during his short stint on Merseyside.

“Yes, but it is also for everyone around me,” he said.
“If I play well, I do it for them, for my girlfriend and for my family and friends. I want to give joy to those people. And to the fans. Then I want to do it for myself.
“Of course, sometimes I am disappointed and frustrated.
“But I always try to stay positive and believe there will be a day it will change. I can only change it with hard work, I want to show that some people are wrong and I still have the quality to play – I always aim to do this.”
Quality
Everton were severely struggling in the midfield areas prior to the arrival of Lampard but Van de Beek has helped to settle them in the heart of the pitch.
His passing has been crisp, his energy high, his pressing good and he has set the tempo in games while also being among the better performers even in defeats.

He has versatility in his favour too, being able to play in multiple different roles in midfield which means Lampard can shift him around as and when necessary.
So far he is doing an excellent job of proving his doubters wrong, with many wondering what he must have been doing at Old Trafford to not get a look in.
He provides the perfect balance alongside several midfield partners and Everton are a far better side with him in it than they are without him being part of it.
