Unclear if Everton will face trouble after Alisher Usmanov sanctioned – report

It is “unclear” whether or not Everton will be hit by trouble after Alisher Usmanov was sanctioned, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported on their website that the investor has had his assets frozen due to close ties with Vladimir Putin this week.

The sanctions against the influential Toffees investor also include prohibition from making funds available and an EU travel ban.

Usmanov has also held shares in Arsenal previously but sold those back in 2018 with Everton a sole focus now.

Despite not formalising any recent investment in the Toffees, Usmanov has plenty of influence within the club.

The billionaire has the first refusal agreement for naming the new stadium, something currently worth up to £30million.

Usmanov also sponsors Finch Farm as well as one of his companies MegaFon sponsoring the womens’ side at Everton.

Everton Farhad Moshiri

Close.

Despite Farhad Moshiri having close ties with Usmanov, we are hoping that he puts the football club first in this matter.

The Russian billionaire clearly has influence at the club, and now that his assets are frozen, that could negatively affect matters at Goodison Park.

With so many different avenues of investment and management including Bill Kenwright and Moshiri, though, we’re hoping that is enough.

Putin and Russia are causing huge problems around the world, and it would be smart and the right thing to do to distance ourselves from these matters.

All that matters right now is the safety of the public, and closer to home, the running of our beloved club in a difficult time for those involved.
