Frank Lampard says Everton defender Nathan Patterson is player for future

Nathan Patterson joined Everton in the January transfer window from Rangers when Rafa Benitez was in charge.

The 20-year-old is already a Scotland international and is seen as a huge talent. However, he is yet to feature for the Toffees’ senior team.

Frank Lampard has suggested that the youngster will get games in the future, and that he has shown great patience until now.

The Toffees has also suggested that he needs to keep improving himself in the training, adding he is a player for the future.

“He’s showing great patience on the outside! He’s come here at a young age to the Premier League, it’s a big ask. Of course he’ll get his games, he’s a player for now and the future. He’ll need to keep working at times and that’s very normal,” said Lampard, as relayed by Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones.

Patience

Lampard is absolutely spot on here.

Patterson probably would have played some games for the senior side had Benitez been in charge, but he needs to be patient.

It will be interesting to see if Lampard hands him some game time in the FA Cup clash tomorrow (3 March) at Goodison Park.

Seamus Coleman is still the first-choice at the club, while Jonjoe Kenny has impressed under Lampard.

Patterson is really young and he is seen as a player for the future. Lampard probably intends to integrate him into the side gradually.

However, the lack of game time for Patterson would be a worrying sign for Scotland. Steve Clarke will want his players to be in brilliant shape ahead of the World Cup, and Patterson is in his plans.

Everton have signed a highly talented player, but at the moment, a bit of patience is required.
