Everton starlet Anthony Gordon hailed ‘unbelievable’ by Boreham Wood boss Garrard
Everton cruised into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last night as they overcome National League side Boreham Wood 2-0 at Goodison Park.
Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon scored both goals in the second half as the non-league outfit put up a good fight on Merseyside against much stronger opposition.
The 32-year-old was named man of the match on ITV but Wood manager Luke Garrard had high praise for Toffees’ homegrown starlet Anthony Gordon.

“Gordon is unbelievable and I said it pre-match, he is frightening and such a talent,” he said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “So I’m just thankful that we didn’t open up too much because I think they could have had three or four.”
The 36-year-old also revealed he had learned a lot from listening to Toffees boss Frank Lampard on the sidelines throughout the game.
“You have got a gaffer next to them who sends them on with great information and organisation and that side of things,” he said.
“That’s the biggest learning curve I’ve had this evening is listening to Frank Lampard. The way they play, the way he gives them freedom, and the information he passes on to them is amazing.”
Key to success
Gordon has begun to shine more and more this season and with every passing game, he is increasing his endearment with the Goodison Park faithful.

The 20-year-old could well become Everton’s own homegrown star, not unlike Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, Bukayo Saka at Arsenal or Phil Foden at Manchester City.
You can see in the way he plays the game he has a big love for the football club and he, therefore, puts more effort into each and every match than any other man in blue.
Lampard has rightfully spotted his commitment to the cause and he is being rewarded by getting regular starts that he couldn’t earn under the previous manager Rafael Benitez.
Gordon and Lampard together might be the solid base that Everton need to build a great team before they head to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium in a couple of years time with the aim of becoming challengers in both England and Europe.
In other Everton news, they could be forced to sell their star assets due to the ongoing controversy surrounding Alisher Usmanov.
