Frank Lampard texted Luke Garrard supportive message ahead of Everton v Boreham Wood tie
Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard revealed the supportive message Frank Lampard sent him ahead of the FA Cup tie with Everton.
A brace from Salomon Rondon eventually saw the home side through at Goodison Park last night (Thursday 3 March) to end the non-league side’s dream run.
But the Toffees boss helped make the match a special occasion for the National League team ahead of the match, reaching out via text to his opposite number.

The message was shown on the ITV match broadcast, with Lampard saying, via The Express: “Hi Luke. Frank Lampard here. Just wanted to congratulate you on the result yesterday.
“Purely on a coach to coach level, I could see what it meant to you and that’s why we do the job! Some achievement from you and the lads.
“Don’t normally touch base like this before games but just wanted to say that I, and we as a club, will make you all very welcome when you come to Goodison.
“Hopefully not too welcome when the game starts. Look forward to seeing you. Frank.”
Nice touch
Football is a results business but it is also about the experience and the memories so it was nice to see the fifth-tier outfit enjoying their time on Merseyside despite going out of the cup.
Everton’s manager obviously was aware of what the occasion would mean to his opponents and sent a nice message.
Despite the FA Cup losing some of its lustre in recent times it is the meetings between Premier League giants and lower-league teams that makes it special.

The former Chelsea star can’t be accused of having devalued the competition, having won it four times as a player with a fantastic scoring record, and has reached a final once already as a manager.
The home side’s performance was surprisingly laboured considering the huge gap between the sides, and the strength of the home form so far under Lampard.
But they made it through and there is still hope for Lampard to add to his extensive history in the FA Cup.
