Pat Nevin hails ‘class above’ Everton ace Anthony Gordon

Former Everton player Pat Nevin has hailed Blues winger Anthony Gordon for his first-half performance against Boreham Wood.

The two sides went into the break level at halftime in a lacklustre performance that left the fans inside Goodison Park frustrated.

Nevin singled out local lad Gordon as a “class above” his teammates in the first half in a game they went on to win.

He told BBC Sport: “You are looking for a spark for Everton now and it looks like Anthony Gordon will be the most likely to create something.

“He just looks a class above.”

Gordon has been the Blues best performer since Lampard arrived at the club.

It was far from his best performance in an Everton shirt, but he was much, much better than his very poor teammates.

If truth be told, it wasn’t hard for him to look a “class above” with just how bad some of the Everton players played in that first half against non-league opposition.

Lampard needs to give the players a serious grilling for their first half performance, it was embarrassing.

Gordon though is a serious talent. The Liverpool lad is continuously compared to Steven Gerrard and you can see why.

At such a young age, he wants to do everything he can to help the team, on the ball he is brilliant and off the ball he is equally as good, never shying away from a tackle.

Hopefully, he can deliver some of the magic the Toffees have seen from him often this season to book Everton’s place in the next round of the cup.
