Alan Myers shares if Everton need to pay back £30million USM funds pumped into Bramley Moore Dock development

Alan Myers has insisted that Everton don’t need to pay the £30million back to USM after their dealings collapsed with the club.

Farhad Moshiri cut ties with Alisher Usmanov this week, along with his three companies that held big sponsor deals with the Toffees.

USM paid £30million for first naming rights on the new Bramley Moore Dock stadium, something that Myers shared has been partly used and won’t need to be reimbursed.

Writing in his latest piece for Sky Sports, Myers shared the latest with difficult times mooted ahead.

“Then, too, there is the matter of the £30m paid by USM to secure first option on naming rights for Everton’s proposed new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock,” he wrote.

“That money will already have contributed, at least in part, to the preparatory work already in progress at the site of the new ground, which is due to be completed for the start of the 2024/25 season.

“That money won’t be paid back, but USM’s first option on naming rights cannot be delivered in the current climate or going forward.”

Sigh of relief.

This would have been a big kick in the teeth if Usmanov and USM were to demand their money back this week.

It has been a tough week for Moshiri, with numerous deals being ended which will result in a shortfall of £30million alone in sponsorships.

That is outside of the £30million given for the first naming rights of the new stadium, meaning it could have seen this season end in huge losses.

Thankfully, that has been negated and Usmanov appears to have taken this dissolved relationship well and isn’t demanding that money back unless there is a clause that protects the club.

It is vital that this is left behind us now, though, with new deals desperately needed moving forward at Goodison Park and the new stadium.
