Everton ace Jordan Pickford claims Frank Lampard brought back ‘spark’

Jordan Pickford has lifted the lid on the changes Everton manager Frank Lampard has made to help boost the team’s performances.

The England international claimed the new boss has changed the Toffees play on and off the ball.

Pickford admitted the team are more “aggressive” now and just need to transfer better performances into results.

“I feel the spark is there,” he told Sky Sports. “The new manager has come in and we’ve started off well.

“We’ve been in games a lot more and now it’s just about getting the results. We’ve had a couple of tough fixtures but every game in the Premier League is tough so it’s about being on your A game every time.

“We’re trying to play out from the back a lot more now. We’re having a lot more possession in games.

“I know we didn’t against Manchester City as you’re never going to have more possession than them because they’re that good of a side, but we are now more of a possession-based team, and I feel like we’re being more aggressive now without the ball.”

New era

There has been a clear shift in mentality and performances since the former Chelsea manager arrived and he deserves all of the credit.

It really wasn’t rocket science to see what was going wrong under Rafa Benitez and Lampard has done a great job in addressing those issues.

The players are running more, playing better football, more resolute at the back and actually look like they want to play for Everton.

It is amazing what can happen when you set a team up to go out and play to their strengths rather than a negative, defensive set up which left the Blues constantly on the back foot.

The future looks bright for the Toffees if Lampard can continue to build on the impressive star he has made.

The players clearly enjoy playing under him and he is a young manager with huge potential, eager to impress. Hopefully he can help the club turn a corner and put the shambolic last few years behind them.
