Sky Sports expert predicts result of Everton clash v Tottenham

Everton will travel to north London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Monday night (7 March), desperately in need of points on board.

The Toffees have a horrible record away from Goodison Park, and they sit nervously only a place above the relegation zone.

Sky Sports expert, Lewis Jones, doesn’t see their away form to improve against Spurs and has predicted a 3-1 defeat while writing his column for Sky Sports.

Jones wrote: “Everton have the fewest away points in the Premier League this season (6).

“Plus, they have a manager in Frank Lampard that doesn’t embrace keeping things tight on the road. Everton have shipped five in two away games since he took the job.

“As Chelsea boss, Lampard’s team conceded the second-most goals of any team in the Premier League away from his home during his tenure (50) at an average of 1.7 goals per 90 minutes.

“When you add it all up, the glaringly obvious sticks out like a sore thumb. Just back Harry Kane to score.”

Huge game

Everton are heading into this game on the back of a 2-0 victory against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup in midweek.

Under Frank Lampard, the Toffees have shown signs of improvement, but there’s still a lot of work left to be done as the club teetering on the verge of relegation.

Jones is absolutely spot on here. The Toffees need to improve their away record, and so far, there’s little evidence that Lampard can solve that problem.

Everton

At home, with fans behind, Everton play with a high tempo and energy but they need to change their mindset away from home.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still out injured along with Ben Godfrey. However, the potential returns of Andre Gomes and Demarai Gray are a big boost for the club.

The key challenge here is to sit tight at the back and not allow Harry Kane to move freely.

Spurs have lost back to back home games against Southampton and Wolves, and there’s no reason why Everton can’t hurt them if they maintain a solid defensive shape.
