Frank Lampard confident Everton will stay in Premier League this season

Frank Lampard has emphasised his confidence that Everton will remain a Premier League team next season amid genuine relegation concerns.

The Blues suffered a devastating 5-0 defeat last night (March 7) away to Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Chelsea boss insists results will come and has urged his players to work hard for them.

Everton

“I am confident,” Lampard told Football Daily when asked whether Everton will remain in the Premier League next season.

“I know there is a lot in this team, I know we haven’t been here long, and the thing is I didn’t walk into the building with a magic wand and say, ‘I’m actually going to make this team that’s won one in 14 go on an unbeaten run and be mid table’, it’s not possible.

“It takes a bit of time to get the work together, we have seen it at Goodison [Park], we haven’t seen it away from that is something we have to tackle but I’m absolutely confident that is why I am here

“I wouldn’t take on the job because at the time when coming in, it was very clear when I got here the feeling was ‘we could be going down here’.

“It was very clear in the city and the club.”

Embarrassing

Things are just going from bad to worse for Everton. Last night was a game you would expect every single player to be up for.

Everton

Playing against a big team in Spurs, one point off the relegation zone and needing an away day lifeline to rescue the season before it is too late.

Instead, the Blues put in probably the worst performance of the whole season. They started well but as soon as they conceded the first goal, the team fell to pieces.

Everyone is aware of the mentality issues amongst the squad and that embarrassing performance proves it.

Lampard needs to address that problem rather than simply thinking about football.

The players’ confidence is obviously rock bottom, and they need that belief restored in them by the manager.

The whole squad needs to pull together now for what will certainly be a club defining next couple of months.
