‘Surprised it wasn’t 10’ – Simon Jordan destroys Everton after thrashing v Tottenham

Simon Jordan has ripped into Everton for their performance in the 5-0 defeat to Tottenham on Monday night, saying Frank Lamprd ‘has a job on his hands’.

The Toffees were battered from pillar to post at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, finding themselves 3-0 down at half-time before the home side took their foot off the gas at 5-0 in the 55th minute.

Jordan, who was speaking on his talkSPORT show [March 8, 10:21am], said the performance was so bad he was ‘surprised it wasn’t ten’ and that the team were ‘disjointed’ from the start.

“Everton were so poor, I was surprised it wasn’t ten,” he said.

“Because they were just a disjointed, dysfunctional team of misfits that didn’t seem to have any legs whatsoever, or any desire to overcome the obstacles in front of them.

“It wasn’t a great Tottenham Hotspur, it was just a Tottenham Hotspur who looked margins better than them. You look at that and you go, well Frank’s got a job [to do]. He’s got a job on his hands.”

Reality check

For anyone who believed that Everton were too big or too good to go down, Monday night served as a true reality check for everyone.

They were poor in all aspects of their play, failing to register a single shot on target for the second away league game in a row and remain just one point above the relegation zone.

Lampard has done well in home games, thrashing Brentford and Leeds while controversially suffering defeat to Man City, but away from home it’s been the total opposite end of the spectrum.

There are big decisions that need to be made for Lampard because the future of the club has to come first, meaning that he needs to put his own wishes secondary to that.

Ensure defensive structure is in place, don’t concede goals freely and look to find a way of playing that suits the current squad. If they survive, then they can look to implement his strategies and philosophies with a clean slate.
