Kevin Campbell has called on Everton manager Frank Lampard to “do what’s best for the team” and drop Michael Keane after his recent errors.
The centre-back opened the scoring with an own goal in the 5-0 pummeling away to Tottenham on Monday (7 March).
That came after he gifted Phil Foden the only goal of the game in the Manchester City defeat at Goodison Park when he couldn’t sort his feet out properly.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News the former Toffee said: “Keane’s been struggling.
“Look, he’s an England international and when things are going terribly you don’t want to come out of the firing line, because you want to stay in the team.
“But when you’re making those sorts of mistakes the manager has to do what’s right for the team.
“Taking Michael Keane out of the firing line, that’s what he has to do.
“We can’t get any worse with [Jarrad] Branthwaite in there, it cannot get any worse.
“I’m not sure how [Yerry] Mina is but they’ve got to change something at the back because, especially away from home, it’s just not working.”
The entire defence was woeful at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the former Manchester United man’s confidence must be shot.
He has been a good servant for the club over the years but right now he is actively making things harder.
Nobody wants to see a player bombed out of the squad but Frank Lampard cannot afford to be nice right now because things have got to change fast.
