Everton defensive problems can be solved by playing Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton currently possesses one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League and Frank Lampard seems to have no answer to the issues.

The Toffees have conceded a whopping 46 goals from just 25 games in the league this season with only Leeds, Watford and Norwich have shipped more.

The sacking of Rafael Benitez has done little to change these fortunes with Lampard yet to solidify the Everton defence and the sands of the hourglass starting to run out.

Current injuries to Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina certainly isn’t helping the situation at the moment with Mason Holgate and Michael Keane the only two senior central defenders fit to play.

But maybe there is another option at the club who is itching to get his chance to shine on the big stage and Lampard has to give him that opportunity.

That man has to be Jarrad Branthwaite. His time is now despite only having played three times in the Premier League this season.

He scored a crucial goal against Chelsea earlier in the campaign under Benitez’s tenure but he still hasn’t been given the chance to play week-in, week out.

He may only be 19 years of age but he is six-foot, five-inches tall which is giant no matter how old you are.

There can be no questions of his physical readiness and his ability on the ball is a large reason why the Toffees bought him from Carlisle United in the first place.

If the defence can’t be patched up with the current players Lampard trusts, why not give a younger player a chance and Branthwaite isn’t the only one who might be deserving of a chance but he is the most likely right now.

In other Everton news, a transfer to another Premier League club could be on the cards for this Merseyside hero.
