Nigel Reo-Coker suggests Everton lack character after 1-0 loss v Wolves
Everton lost 1-0 against Wolves at Goodison Park on Sunday (13 March) in the Premier League and they are facing the prospect of relegation.
Nigel Reo-Coker has suggested on the Football Daily podcast that the Toffees players lack “character” at the moment.
Conor Coady scored the only goal of the match in the second half, as Frank Lampard’s side sit above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Reo-Coker said on BBC Football Daily Podcast: “Lampard knew the situation. He didn’t realise how much of a hot mess the club is.
“Look at the situation – it’s like a chef with so many ingredients they’ve without having a definite direction.
“They are buying players here and there, and they’re not gelling as a team. The biggest thing you need, and especially now, is character.”
Spot on
The BBC pundit is absolutely right with his assessment.
Lampard speaks about hard work in training and keeping focus, but these are basic requirements of a professional player playing in the Premier League.
What makes the difference is players take responsibility and show character on the pitch.
Neville Southall urged the fans on Twitter to stick with the team, and help them ease the storm, but the fans cannot do the job on the pitch. It’s the players who need to deliver.

Once Everton conceded the goal, there was a minimal effort from them to restore parity as if the confidence had evaporated completely.
This mentality needs to change. They cannot go into a match thinking there will a point of no return if they concede.
To be fair, apart from the Leeds game when was the last time, Everton actually scored and made the game challenging?
Lampard must address these problems, but time is running out.
