‘Major concern’ – Chris Sutton makes Everton relegation prediction

Chris Sutton believes Everton are ‘heading to the Championship’ after their latest defeat to Wolves, he told the Daily Mail.

Frank Lampard’s side are outside of the relegation zone only on goal difference and play five of the current top seven in their next six games in the Premier League, putting their top flight status in severe doubt.

Now Sutton believes they are heading for relegation based on what we’ve seen so far this season, with their league-worst away record being a ‘major concern’ for him.

“They’re a team packed with talents,” he said. “The XI that lost to Wolves was made up of internationals from all around the world, including an incredibly talented Brazilian in Richarlison, and they’ve got a promising manager in Frank Lampard.

“On paper, therefore, they’re a solid side. The trouble is on grass, they’ve been rubbish. I fear Everton are heading to the Championship.

“The other good news for their fans is my other predictions haven’t been the best.

“Everton have the worst away record in the Premier League. That’s a major concern and they’ve still got to go to Burnley, Watford, West Ham, Liverpool, Leicester and Arsenal. I’m really worried about Everton.

“It’s not only that they’re losing games. It’s the manner in which they’re losing them. They’re so low on confidence and almost feeling sorry for themselves.

“We all assumed Everton would get out of this mess because, well, they’re Everton football club. But if we base it on what we’ve seen of them in fixtures so far, they’re on their way out of the Premier League.”

Inevitable

The pressure is mounting and the Toffees are melting under it right now, they need something big to swing in their favour.

The fixture list is against them, their current performances are going against them and even the results of the teams around them aren’t going their way now.

The first-team squad are hugely under-performing and it seems as though many of the people at the club may have had a similar belief that they would survive simply because they’re Everton.

That isn’t how football works however and Lampard and his team are finding that out in a serious way, and quickly.

They’ve earned just nine points from the last 20 Premier League games and to see it swing around in the next 12 games considering the level of opposition they’ll be up against is a tough ask.

Fingers crossed Sutton’s poor prediction record can continue.
