Nigel Reo-Coker destroys Everton, takes aim at midfielder Dele Alli

Nigel Reo-Coker has emptied both barrels on Everton ace Dele Alli, claiming that football isn’t the midfielder’s main priority since making his Merseyside move in January.

The former Aston Villa man branded the Blues “a mess” as they sit a 17thin the Premier League with just goal difference keeping them above the drop zone.

Reo-Coker also took aim at the Toffees recruitment system with their several January signings failing to make a noticeable impact at the club.

“The club, for me, has been a mess from the top and the recruitment side of things, there’s been no direction and it’s difficult,” the 37-year-old said on the BBC’s Football Daily Podcast.

“Do they care? For me, those are some great players, but are they the ones Everton need in this situation? Look at that window and they should’ve been looking just for survival.

“Dele Alli is Dele Alli there are issues there and for me football doesn’t look to be his priority and he can show his aggression in the way he plays and approaches the game rather than getting into scuffles and stuff.”

Final chapter

You could spend all day defending Alli. The media’s relentless obsession with him is getting boring and isn’t even worth entertaining.

Elsewhere, the end of the January window was a clear sign of desperation from the club despite that being an age-old problem at the club, you can excuse it on this occasion.

Frank Lampard would have been desperate to add some quality to the squad upon his arrival, especially in midfield with the brand of football he plays.

Which speaks for the moves of Alli and Donny van de Beek. Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko were and still are very good signings for the long-term future of the club but they might not have been what the Blues needed to help in their Premier League survival.

With that being said, the Toffees didn’t have a recognised left-back in the squad following the sale of Lucas Digne and their recruitment team would find themselves under even more scrutiny if a replacement hadn’t been brought in.

As for Anwar El Ghazi, that move was a complete waste of time and the blame lies undoubtedly on Farhad Moshiri and no one else.

The club now have Kevin Thelwell on board which hopefully indicates the end of years of horrible business.
