Frank Lampard says injuries at Everton have frustrated him

Frank Lampard has admitted that injuries to key players at Everton have frustrated him.

Lampard replaced Rafa Benitez at the club, but the results haven’t improved as expected.

Everton find themselves teetering on the verge of relegation, with goal differences separating them from the bottom three.

The likes of Ben Godfrey, Yerry Mina, Demarai Gray, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have missed actions with injuries, and Lampard has bemoaned that it has resulted in frequent changes in systems.

“It has been frustrating, I am not going to lie. We lost two centre-backs, I think Demarai has started two league games for us, one that he had to come off after 20 minutes,” said Lampard, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

“So, big players for us. Dominic is another one. It has meant I have had to change the system more than I want – even though when we change the system I don’t want to change the idea.

“But I have had to make up for the players we are missing. We have had quite a few illness situations running into games where I haven’t divulged it out loud but people have been suffering before. They have just about been fit so can’t start.”

Partly true

Indeed, it’s really frustrating for any new manager to be missing key players at the club.

Lampard must have an idea and philosophy on how he wants to shape his team, but injuries to key players have forced him to make alterations to his system.

Since his arrival, he has missed the services of Fabian Delph, Tom Davies, Yerry Mina, while Godfrey, Gray and Calvert-Lewin have sustained injuries as well.

At the same time, it is up to the manager to find a way to get the best out of what he has got.

The Blues will face Newcastle in a crucial Premier League game where they will be aiming to pick up three points at home.

Calvert-Lewin is still doubtful for this game, while Mina is still a few weeks away from returning to the first team. Godfrey should be able to feature.

Richarlison is likely to operate as a lone striker but the problem is he is not getting enough support from the other forwards.

In other Everton news, there is reportedly a £70million “disaster” on the cards at the club.
