Lampard under pressure as £70m ‘disaster’ on the cards for Moshiri at Everton

Frank Lampard is under pressure to keep Everton in the Premier League with the manager “at a critical point for his own career”, according to Telegraph journalist Sam Wallace.

Writing on the Telegraph website, Wallace reports that Everton owner Farhad Moshiri faces the club losing £70million in broadcast revenue if the club is relegated from the Premier League this season.

It is understood that kind of financial loss would “ask more of everyone involved, not least Moshiri”, who’s lost the support of Uzbek-born Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov due to his sanctioning.

No more cliches, just win

It’s easy to sit here and say that Everton face a must-win game against Newcastle tonight [17 March] and have 12 cup finals to play to stay in the Premier League.

We want to avoid the cliches. We just want to say that this group of players needs to start scoring goals and winning matches as soon as possible because we’re genuinely worried about the future of Everton Football Club.

Even if we stay up, the financial situation is looking bleak with the Blues having to work alongside the Premier League in order to avoid breaking Financial Fair Play regulations.

Moshiri has spent £500million on new players during his time as owner, overseen numerous managers and also started work on the new £500million stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Up until now, he’s had the help and support of business associate Usmanov. However, the billionaire’s sanctioning is set to have major consequences for the Toffees, who’ve relied a lot on his backing since Moshiri came in.

Wallace writes that “relegation would be a disaster for Everton”. That goes without saying at the best of times.

But if it was to happen now, amid all the off-field strife, it could be a hard blow that the club might struggle to get back up from.
