‘Unrest’ – Alan Shearer not confident Frank Lampard can turn Everton fortunes around

Alan Shearer has admitted that he has doubts over whether or not Frank Lampard can save Everton from relegation this season.

The former Chelsea boss took over in January and has so far won just one league game in six, with the Toffees now above the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Asked on Amazon Prime Video Sport if he feels Lampard can turn it around at Goodison Park in the same way Eddie Howe has done at Newcastle, Shearer wasn’t confident of his chances.

“Not on the evidence I’ve seen, no,” he stated firmly.

“They have to improve and they have to improve quickly and drastically because some of the performances have been nowhere near good enough.

“There is a lot of unrest at Goodison and you can understand why.”

The Blues need points and they need them fast, so Lampard has to do all he can to get them.

He came in with a vision to play fast-paced, attacking football with a high press but it’s been nigh on impossible to implement so far and the team have suffered because of it.

Lampard now needs to go back to basics and shut up shop, while hoping that his talented attacking players can do enough damage at the other end to get vital points.

With games against five of the current top six to come before the end of the season, they need to ensure they don’t leave the other games empty handed to have any sort of chance or survival.

They’re quickly running out of time and with games in hand now off the table, it’s truly now or never for Everton to survive.
