Everton chairman Bill Kenwright makes shock visit to Finch Farm

Everton went a very long way towards securing their Premier League status for another year last night as they beat Newcastle United 1-0 at Goodison Park.

Alex Iwobi scored the crucial goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time to send supporters wild and even Frank Lampard got a bit over-excited in the mayhem, injuring his hand [Amazon Prime].

The boss revealed after the game that chairman Bill Kenwright had visited Finch Farm the day before the game to rouse his players ahead of the crunch game.

“We had our chairman come to our training ground yesterday off his own accord,” Lampard said, as quoted by Liverpool World.

“He spoke to me to clear it with me. What he did was he spoke to the lads for half an hour of his passion for the club.

“It’s not normal. I’ve been in the game for a long time. A lot of chairmen are very corporate, doing their job away from the players.

“He delivered a speech to the players. I have to do it all the time – 25 players, young men, it’s not an easy audience all of the time.”

Unique

Kenwright and the Everton supporters have had their differences over the years but you cannot doubt the man’s love for Everton Football Club.

A lot of chairmen across the country are content with raking in the money and doing the bare minimum to qualify for the role but not Kenwright.

His commitment to the club is arguably beyond that of any club staff member and matches what the fans give to be a part of the experience.

His willingness to go into the training ground to try and make a positive difference is something very few senior figures at any club would do after the first couple of weeks they are appointed.

Whatever he said to the players clearly worked too with that vital 1-0 win against the Magpies. Keep going in if the results turn out like that every time.

In other Everton news, Lampard has confirmed he suffered a bizarre injury during last night’s heroic victory at Goodison Park.
