Michael Ball delivers verdict on Everton after FA Cup loss v Crystal Palace

Michael Ball has suggested that he was shocked to see the lack of belief in the team as Everton lost 4-0 against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Sunday (20 March).

Despite making an impressive start at Selhurst Park, the Toffees lost their way completely after they conceded the opening goal.

They trailed 2-0 at the break, and there was still time for a comeback. But, Everton players helplessly surrendered in the end in what was really a “shocking” performance.

Ball shared his reaction on Twitter: “Lack of belief in the 2nd half was shocking.”

Thorny issue

This has been a thorny issue, a recurrent theme, under Frank Lampard, so far.

The Toffees went into this game with confidence after beating Newcastle 1-0 in the Premier League.

They started the game strongly and could’ve taken the lead.

However, the players looked completely bereft of confidence once again after they conceded the first goal.

We all expected a strong reaction in the second half, but what happened was a meek surrender from the visitors.

Lampard has struggled to pick up wins away from home. But what has been really frustrating is the performance and the attitude of the players when things are not going to their plans.

While Premier League survival is at stake at the moment, and that should be the priority, these sorts of results dampen the spirits in the camp.

After a nervy win against the Magpies, a big win was needed to boost their confidence. The lack of belief, as Ball has pointed out, seems to be a thorny issue for the Toffees.
