Michael Keane garbage, Anthony Gordon shines again – Everton player ratings v Crystal Palace
Everton were dumped out of the FA Cup by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday as the Londoners won 4-0 against Frank Lampard’s men.
Marc Guehi, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Wilfried Zaha and Will Hughes scored as the Blues failed to build upon their late win over Newcastle earlier in the week and missed out on a spot in the semi-finals at Wembley.
It was a wretched, hopeless display by the Blues and here, Goodison News has not held back in rating the players out of 10 for their performances at Selhurst:

Jordan Pickford – 4
Pickford could have probably done better for Palace’s second goal and he also needs to command his box better at penalties. The marking for Guehi’s goal was all over the place and he should try to pick that up.
Seamus Coleman – 4
It was a mixed performance by Coleman, who showed glimpses of brilliance both in the attack and defence while also showing signs of why he needs to be phased out of the team by Lampard.

Jonjoe Kenny – 4
Kenny was rightly substituted off at half-time. He struggled on loan at Celtic last season so we have no idea how he’s able to get into Everton’s starting line-up. Nathan Patterson and Vitaly Mykolenko will have every right to be aggrieved by Kenny beating them to the line-up at Selhurst.
Mason Holgate – 3
Holgate is another player who’s simply not good enough for Everton Football Club. His distribution from the defence was woeful. He was nowhere near to stopping Palace’s goals.
Ben Godfrey – 3
Our defence is shambolic. Godfrey is someone who you’d think would step up and play better than his defensive team-mates in South London but if you did think that, you’d be wrong.
Michael Keane – 1
Keane missed a sitter in the opening minute and that set the tone for his performance. He was absolutely woeful at defending Palace’s first goal and was AWOL for their second. He then gave up completely when Hughes scored the fourth. Keane is the most senior of the centre-backs at Everton yet he’s easily the most underwhelming each time he plays. Lampard – or whoever is in charge – has a lot of work to do on this nightmare of a defence in the summer. Is 1/10 harsh for a player who’s not only not good enough but also doesn’t seem to care? No, it’s generous if anything. Absolutely garbage.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 4
It was pointless Doucoure getting out of bed this morning. He didn’t do anything of note and is meant to be one of the better players in this squad of pretenders.
Andre Gomes – 2
We’ve run out of words for Gomes. He is absolutely rotten and is one of the first players who need to be shown the exit door in the summer. Gomes made next to no effort to stop Mateta’s goal just before half-time and offered absolutely nothing when he was on the ball.

Anthony Gordon – 7 (Man of the match)
We really do feel sorry for Gordon. The 21-year-old was probably the best player on the pitch in the first half. He fizzled out after the break as Lampard tweaked his system but Gordon showed great skill and attacking instinct when he was on the ball. Yet again, the England Under-21 international was easily the best Evertonian on the pitch.
Andros Townsend – 5
He looked bright at the start of the game but unfortunately rolled his ankle inside 15 minutes and could be out for a while. All the best, Andros.
Richarlison – 4
Richarlison didn’t get that much support but he had so many chances in that game and failed to score. The Brazil international’s finished was all over the place. He doesn’t look like he enjoys playing for Everton anymore. Who can blame him? But he does need to take a look in the mirror and recognise his performances are nowhere near up to standard either.
Substitutes:
Demarai Gray (on for Townsend, 16′) – 4
It’s a shame Townsend went off for Gray. The ex-Leicester man was non-existent.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (on for Kenny, 46′) – 4
You’d be forgiven for missing the fact that Calvert-Lewin was substituted into the game at half-time.
Alex Iwobi (on for Coleman, 73′) – N/A
In other Everton news, this Blues star may have just saved £70million for under-fire owner Farhad Moshiri.
