“Honestly, spot on. I thought they started really really well,” said McCoist.

“Frank is right. The concerning thing, I’ve seen heads go down, certainly, they didn’t have the same enthusiasm and intensity.

“Frank is quite right to be disappointed with the manner and performance after the goal.”

Shocking

It wasn’t a game where Everton should have lost 4-0. Crystal Palace didn’t play that well to win by 4-0 either.

The Toffees made a bright start in the first 15-20 minutes, and they created some very good chances.

Andros Townsend in particular was fired up for this game. He looked lively on the right flank and produced some fantastic deliveries in the box.

He got injured, unfortunately, in the first half after twisting his knee, and was taken off.

There was a gap of five to six minutes when Townsend went off, and it helped Palace to regroup, rethink and formulate a strategy to counter the Toffees.

Once they got that first goal, there was no stopping back. Everton looked disjointed, dispirited, and they were completely bereft of confidence.

Even when they were 2-0 down at the break, they completely gave up. More than anything else, irrespective of the result, this stooping to mediocrity is simply unacceptable.

Lampard was right to vent his frustration, and McCoist also agrees with his post-match analysis of the game.
