Newcastle to step up pursuit of Everton defender Ben Godfrey

Newcastle are reportedly looking to step up their pursuit of Everton defender Ben Godfrey in the summer transfer window.

According to The Mirror, the ultra-rich club, backed by their Saudi owners, made a move for the Englishman in January as well.

However, despite it not materialising, they have not given up the chase and will be back again to test the Toffees’ resolve at the end of the season.

Keep him

Godfrey represents the future of Everton and must not be sold at any cost.

Despite his lack of form, he’s a quality defender who has an extremely high ceiling.

Not only is he adept as a centre-back but is exceptional when played as a right-back and left-back as well.

If the club are looking to sign another centre-back in the summer, Godfrey is likely to be the man partnering with him for the next few years.

Everton

Hopefully, Newcastle do not make Everton an offer that they can reject as they’ve got extremely deep pockets.

They could even tempt the Englishman to leave by offering him a mega paycheck at which point his loyalty to the club will be put to a test.

It remains to be seen if he’s still at Goodison Park come August 31.

In other Everton news, Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has apologised to Everton with regard to his comments about them due to what’s been going on at Chelsea.
