View: Everton fans will be furious with Frank Lampard recent comments

Everton fans will be fuming with Frank Lampard’s comments after the Blues capitulated against Crystal Palace yesterday [March 20].

The Toffees fell to a rather embarrassing 4-0 defeat against the Eagles in the FA Cup at Selhurst Park, missing out on the chance of a trip to Wembley.

After the game he told Liverpool ECHO: “Maybe it’s not Everton’s time, it’s not my time as an Everton manager to be there at Wembley.

“Crystal Palace have been together for a while, with the manager since the start of the season, invested in really important areas of their squad and their team which they needed to do from last year.

“It’s their time, and it’s not ours. The job’s to stay up, that’s the reality of it. If you offer any Evertonian did they want to win today and get to Wembley or to stay up, we all know what the answer is.”

Admittedly the number one priority is Premier League survival, but the fans would have wanted to go all the way in the cup just as much.

The hardest thing about the defeat is Lampard’s defeatist mentality afterwards. This is Everton Football Club, and they deserve to be winning trophies and competing at the highest level regardless of the team’s recent form.

No choice

The former Chelsea boss will be pleased he can place all of his focus on Premier League survival now.

That is what he will ultimately be measured on come the end of the season, not a trip to Wembley or the very unlikely potential of them winning the cup.

That certainly won’t make it any easier for the fans and the boss’ comments after the game were undoubtedly to take the heat away from him and the players after a shambolic performance and result.

It was unacceptable from a Toffees perspective and the lack of outrage speaks volumes of where the club are at the minute.

In normal circumstances, losing 4-0 in the quarter-final would be a disaster. An unforgivable result, especially with it coming at the hands of Crystal Palace.

They now have 11 hugely important league games to play and there are no excuses at all if the Blues go down.

The players only have one focus now and they have two weeks away from club action to get themselves prepared for the final hurdle.
