Michael Ball claims Everton players have no ‘backbone’

Michael Ball has destroyed the Everton players claiming they have no “backbone” amid months of terrible form leaving the Blues on the brink of relegation, as per Liverpool ECHO.

The Toffees find themselves in 17th in the Premier League, a mere three points away from the drop zone.

Ball recognises that the Everton players need support in order to get through this mess rather than being slandered in the media.

He told ECHO: “I listened to Frank Lampard’s comments before the Newcastle United game and I understand the pressure from the media and people like myself giving the players stick that they surely deserve, is not going to help anyone.

“I thought I’m going to find any positives that I can because these Everton players need all the encouragement under the sun. They need an arm around the shoulder and to pretend that they’re loved.

“It’s been shown that whether it’s Jamie Carragher, myself or whoever calling them out, they can’t answer back as they have no backbone. They might do it once but then they forget everything again.”

Weak mentality

The modern-day footballer is built differently, but these Toffees platers are just a joke.

As soon as one thing goes against them, they fall apart and, in all honesty, they deserve to get relegated this season with how bad they have been.

They have been shambolic all season long and other than a lot more energy and a couple of important results at Goodison Park, the team looks more or less the same as what it did under Rafa Benitez.

Luckily there should be three teams worse off than the Blues by the end of the season but with the wealth of quality and resources they have, they shouldn’t be anywhere near where they currently find themselves – it’s embarrassing.

Lampard would have tried putting his arm around the players when he first got to the club in an attempt to get them on board and playing for him.

There is no doubt at all Benitez would have gone for the opposite, tougher approach during his short spell at the club so where do they go from here having seemingly tried everything?

In other Everton news, the Blues have the option to terminate Lampard’s contract – report.
