Everton should stay away from Paulo Dybala after Paulo Di Canio’s comments

An attacking midfielder might be very high on Frank Lampard’s wish list at Everton this summer but they have to be careful who they go after.

One player who has become available recently is Juventus’ Paulo Dybala who will leave the Old Lady at the end of the season when his contract expires [Fabrizio Romano].

The Toffees had previously been linked with the Argentine in 2021 by Caught Offside but no move ever came close to fruition as the player rejected a move to Goodison Park at the time.

On the surface, Dybala would look like an astonishing signing to make given the rave reviews he has received in his career so far but there might be more than meets the eye with the 28-year-old.

Former West Ham striker and Sunderland manager Paulo Di Canio has unleashed on the Juventus attacker recently as he does not agree with the handling of his contract debacle in Turin.

“If things go well, he turns up in games, but if things go wrong, I define him almost as a big cry baby,” Di Canio told Corriere Dello Sport.

It is a huge claim to make although we shouldn’t be surprised by the Italian’s dramatic remarks after his time in the Premier League.

But those comments can’t go unnoticed and Everton will have to think long and hard about whether they want to reignite their interest now he has become available on a free transfer.

For Lampard’s sake, let’s hope Dybala stays away from Merseyside because the last thing he needs is a potentially disruptive character in the dressing room as he looks to turn the fortunes of the club in the right direction.
