View: Marcus Alonso directs dig at Everton boss Frank Lampard

Chelsea defender Marcus Alonso has sent a back-handed dig in the direction of his former boss and now Everton manager Frank Lampard.

The 43-year-old boss had a good start to his Stamford Bridge career but was sacked just 18 months into his tenure.

Thomas Tuchel was the man to replace Lampard following his departure from the club with Alonso claiming the team made big improvements under the German.

He told AS: “Since he [Tuchel] arrived, the team took a leap tactically and when it came to defending. We are very happy with it.”

Patience

Alonso’s comments are a little insensitive towards his former boss.

Despite it being true that Chelsea did improve once Lampard left, he showed a massive amount of quality in charge of his boyhood club.

The former England international came in under extremely difficult circumstances and did excellently in his first season, building the foundations for Tuchel whilst reaching the FA Cup final and finishing top four and hopefully he can follow suit very soon at Goodison Park.

Lampard nearly navigated his way to the FA Cup semi-final with the Blues suffering an embarrassing defeat at Selhurst Park in the quarters.

There is no doubt that with better players and more time at the club, he can turn things around and get the Toffees winning again.

Admittedly, Lampard is still rather inexperienced but his sacking at Chelsea and his rather successful spell at Derby would have taught him an awful lot.

The former Chelsea player is a born winner and he will be looking to continue that luck as a manager, he just needs the time to succeed.
